About Pure Mind Abiding

Pure Mind Abiding is a quiet place created for people who are tired of trying to fix themselves.
It is for those who have worked hard, learned many things, and still feel a tender ache inside.

This site does not offer techniques to master or goals to achieve.
It offers something simpler: a place to rest, and to be gently held by awareness itself.

The Journey Behind the Practice

A fair question often arises:

Why would a university-trained mindfulness teacher end up speaking about “Pure Mind” and “Abiding”?

Much of my life has been spent in the world of structured mindfulness training.
I am a qualified teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), having graduated from the
University of Massachusetts Medical School program in 2007.

I studied the nervous system, the psychology of stress, and clinical mindfulness protocols.
I loved this work. I still do.
But there came a chapter in my life where the training was not enough.

When the Storm Came

Like many people, I have known loss.
I lost my father at a young age.
I have lived through the loss of a career, health challenges,
difficult family relationships, and the profound grief of losing a son.

During those darker seasons, I noticed something important.
My “thinking mind”—even my trained, meditating mind—kept trying to solve grief as if it were a problem to be fixed.

I was trying to “mindful” my way out of pain.

It was exhausting.
And more importantly, it did not work.
The more I tried to fix the despair, the stronger it became.

The Shift to Abiding

Slowly, something began to change.
I realized I did not need sharper focus.
I needed a larger container.

I began to practice not just observing my experience, but abiding with it.
Not trying to move away from pain.
Not trying to improve myself.
Simply staying.

This is where I discovered what I now call Pure Mind
that open field of awareness that exists before our stories begin.

I found that I did not need to be strong enough to carry grief.
Pure Mind was already strong enough to carry me, much like the sky holds a storm without being harmed by it.

Why This Website Exists

Pure Mind Abiding was created as a legacy project.
It is my offering to those who are tired of fighting themselves.

It is for people who have tried the techniques, done the therapies, and still feel a quiet ache in the chest.

My hope is simple:
that this may be a place where you stop trying to fix yourself, and begin to experience what it is like to be gently held.

A Quiet Reminder

Nothing needs to be fixed or achieved here—letting it be, and just being, is enough.

Warmly,

G. Ross Clark
