Self-Talk
A gentle way to meet your inner voice with awareness, steadiness, and kindness.
What Is Self-Talk?
Self-talk is the ongoing conversation inside your mind. It can be supportive and kind, or critical and harsh. Most of it happens automatically.
The goal here is not to silence your thoughts. It is to notice them clearly and relate to them in a more helpful way.
You are not your thoughts. You can learn to meet them differently.
Common Patterns of Self-Talk
- self-criticism (I am not good enough)
- worry and fear-based thinking
- replaying past events
- imagining negative outcomes
- pressure to be perfect
A Gentle Way to Work with Self-Talk
1. Notice the Thought
Use Noting: thinking is here, judging is here.
2. Do Not Argue
You do not need to fight the thought or prove it wrong.
3. Stay Gently
Allow the experience using Abiding.
4. Soften the Tone
Bring in Blessing: may I be kind to this.
A Simple Practice
Thinking is here. Judging is here. I can meet this with kindness.
You Do Not Need to Believe Every Thought
Thoughts are events in the mind. They are not always facts. Learning to see them clearly can reduce their power.
If Self-Talk Feels Strong
Start very simply. Use Noting Is Enough or return to the Breath.
